At the 2005 California Library Association annual conference [see below about handouts], I learned about the Infopeople Training Clearinghouse in a 10-minute presentation by Lori Bowen Ayre (expert on using filters in library computers). You can search the Clearinghouse by title, keyword, presenter/format/sponsor, and you can limit any of the searches by zip code by using the “Advanced” mode and selecting from the dropdown menu for “Show Upcoming Events Within.”
Some training on the Infopeople Web site is free. For example, I did a search for “metasearch” and found an archived presentation by Roy Tennant on metasearching, which is a great topic for SLIS school papers.
By the way, there are a lot of handouts and PowerPoint presentations from the 2005 CLA conference posted now on the CLA Conference Workshops Web page. The Information Technology section of CLA will be adding to their material at IT: Conferences.
