A fellow MLIS student, Erika Prange, made me aware of the free RSS WinterFest 2004, which was mentioned on the Solo Librarian Listserv
SOLOLIB-L archives — December 2003 (#230). This is two days of webcasts on January 21-22, 2004.

I am currently looking into setting up an incoming RSS feed to keep this weblog current with news about librarianship. One useful article was written by Roy Tennant for the May 15, 2003 digital libraries section of Library Jounal: Library Journal - Feed Your Head: Keeping Up by Using RSS.
There are additional links at the end of his article, such as LLRX.com - RSS for Non-Techie Librarians and Introduction to RSS - WebReference.com, which are enlightening.
I also ran across helpful hints on the Free Range Librarian weblog:
Free Range Librarian: Getting Started with RSS: The No-Brainer Method.
Working out the technical side is probably not going to be as difficult as finding good feeds with the right content. Then again, there are several different RSS formats and not all may work with Movable Type, the blogging software I use on this site [see sidelink]. I am not sure that I will go as far as buying yet another O’Reilly book (running out of space!), but they published a book by Ben Hammersley in March 2003, and it would be helpful in this case: oreilly.com — Online Catalog: Content Syndication with RSS.
I found what the Free Range Librarian files as “YALB,” (Yet Another Library Blog), which has a lot of links to articles about RSS: blogdriverswaltz.com :: throw another blog on the wire ::: Why RSS? Why Blogs? Why? Why? Why?. Also, one more really good tutorial is at RSS Workshop - Utah State Library Division.
Of course, I am highly anxious to get my hands on Sams Teach Yourself Movable Type in 24 Hours, by Molly Holzschlag, Porter Glendinning, and Christopher Schmitt, but it supposedly won’t be out until January 1, 2004. I hope it explains advanced RSS techniques with Movable Type.
Once I understand the technique, I can probably find useful feeds at Library Weblogs or LISFeeds.com Librarian RSS Feeds.
