At the 2005 California Library Association annual conference [see below about handouts], I learned about the Infopeople Training Clearinghouse in a 10-minute presentation by Lori Bowen Ayre (expert on using filters in library computers). You can search the Clearinghouse by title, keyword, presenter/format/sponsor, and you can limit any of the searches by zip code by using the “Advanced” mode and selecting from the dropdown menu for “Show Upcoming Events Within.”

Some training on the Infopeople Web site is free. For example, I did a search for “metasearch” and found an archived presentation by Roy Tennant on metasearching, which is a great topic for SLIS school papers.

By the way, there are a lot of handouts and PowerPoint presentations from the 2005 CLA conference posted now on the CLA Conference Workshops Web page. The Information Technology section of CLA will be adding to their material at IT: Conferences.

ICISC - International Calendar of Information Science Conferences has been created to list “international conferences expected to be of interest to those working in information science and related disciplines.” See Blake’s July 24, 2005 posting on LISNews.com.

LibrarianInBlack posted in Internet Librarian Preliminary Program that the preliminary program for the October 24-26, 2005 conference at the Monterey Conference Center (California) is available. Direct link to conference Web site: Internet Librarian 2005.
