Today Library Link of the Day e-mailed a link to a Denver Post story Library books play second fiddle to videos, CDs [The Denver Post]. There has been a surge in requests for DVD movies. Due to budget constraints, public libraries have had to choose between videos and books.
Michael Booth, the writer, states that some of the issues for libraries are VHS versus DVD format, theft, and damage, since a scratch on a DVD can make it unusable. Pueblo libraries charge $1 a week to check out videos; my local public library charges 75 cents a week for VHS and DVD rentals.
