Bill Drew created Wireless Libraries on Blogger. He is also asking if any librarians are interested in contributing to the Weblog. The blog includes links to technical information and a bibliography of print and online articles about wireless setup and use in libraries.

The Sunday, March 13, 2005, issue of San Diego Union-Tribune has a story about a game called “Googlewhacking” with the byline Jack Thomas. Thomas reports that Dave Gorman describes the game in his book Dave Gorman’s Googlewhack! Adventure [link is to Amazon.com]. The object of the game is to enter two words in the Google search engine that will produce only one hit.

Thomas writes, “Crazy as it sounds, Goolgewhacking may be good for your health.” Requiring “a high order of cognitive skill called ‘theory of mind,’” it is exercises for your brain. A couple of the rules are: the word must be found at dictionary.com and no proper nouns are allowed.

While searching for this on the Web, I found that Jenny Levine wrote about Googlewhacking in 2002: The Shifted Librarian. Though not mentioned in the article, Googlewacking apparently began in January 2002.
