Description

Discover the novel praised as a “nail-biting thriller” (Publishers Weekly), a “compelling web” (Kirkus Reviews), “tightly plotted character study” (RT Magazine), and a “dark, twisty tale of lurid secrets, lavish lifestyles, and devastating loss” (Lisa Gardner).

A woman who almost had it all….On the surface, Celine Gonzalez had everything a twenty-eight-year-old in Manhattan could want: a one-bedroom apartment on the Lower East Side, a job that (mostly) paid the bills, and an acceptance letter to the prestigious Hollingsworth Institute of Art, where she would finally live out her dream of becoming an antiques appraiser for a major auction house. All she had worked so hard to achieve was finally within her reach. So why would she kill herself?

A man who was supposed to be her salvation….Maggie Sparkes arrives in New York City to pack up what’s left of her best friend’s belongings after a suicide that has left everyone stunned. The police have deemed the evidence conclusive: Celine got into bed, downed a lethal cocktail of pills and vodka, and never woke up. But when Maggie discovers a scandalous photograph in a lock box hidden in Celine’s apartment, she begins asking questions. Questions about the man Celine fell in love with. The man she never told anyone about, not even Maggie. The man Celine believed would change her life.

Until he became her ruin….On the hunt for evidence that will force the police to reopen the case, Maggie uncovers more than she bargained for about Celine’s private life—and inadvertently puts herself on the radar of a killer. A killer who will stop at nothing to keep his crimes undiscovered.

Honestly, one of the best thriller books I've ever read! With many twists and turns leaving you speechless and head spinning, K.A. Tucker brings mystery to another level that will make you second-guess your knowledge and trust for people you may or may not know. Highly recommended for curious minds who want to bring out their inner detective and "Murder, She Wrote" this book.

Wow...KA Tucker is at it again but this time, it's darker and it doesn't let go. This romantic suspense thriller is well developed, masterfully crafted and engaging. I didn't know who to watch for, who to trust and above all, who to root for other than Maggie. It's a must read and an envelop your soul kind of book.

Told from Maggie's POV, beginning November 30th. Maggie's no detective but she is forced to search for answers not believing that her friend killed herself. When Maggie sought answers from Detective Child's, with a case closed, she was determined to prove him wrong. Celine is an art lover and an avid collector of antiques. Celine was living in New York. Celine and her mother use to live in San Diego where her mother was the housekeeper for Maggie's family. Maggie had known Celine since the age of five. Maggie was in Ethiopia for a humanitarian project when she heard the news. I liked the way Celine's character unfolded in her journal entries. Celine was an excellent note taker and made detailed notes in her journals regarding her art collection and her personal life. This was a starting point for Maggie in unlocking the necessary details that led to her friends demise. Maggie enters into Celine's life by visiting her work place, her apartment, and her friends. Celine was a private person too proud to ask or take help from her friend Maggie. Celine wanted to build, earn, and create her own successful life and career. Apparently, Celine's life was full of secrets that Maggie was not privy to. Here she thought they were like sisters to each other. Ms. Tucker gives the reader enough characters to pluck some suspicion on. Each new character is full of intrigue. The story moves along at an interesting pace. It's a compelling and exciting story. The detective format shared compelling information in a timely fashion entertaining the reader. I could not put it down. At no point in the story did I feel like I could stop and pick it up later. At the rate Maggie was preceding in the investigation I could stop the curiosity. I had to know what happened or I would not be able to sleep.

It really begs the question, how well do you know those who your close too? Maggie has lost her best friend, who was like a sister. She thought she knew everything about her. While trying figure what really happened to her, thinking there's no way she would just kill herself, she stumbles upon Celine's journals that bring her into a whole new world. Maggie is beyond rich and will spend every last dime to find out what happened to her best friend. Throughout you get a sense of who Celine is. In eerily flash backs what she actually experienced. In a lot of ways, Celine's story breaks my heart. She was a beautiful, ambitious woman, who was full of life. This story makes you believe you know who did it but then rips the rug right out from under you. The level of suspense keeps you wanting more. There's a nice build up through out and really enjoyed reading it. This is a different genre for Tucker but I believe she nailed it....Lissa
