  • Worst Book Ever

    By Book grandma
I have always enjoyed this author's stories of life in the low country, and have often recommended them to others. I was happy to see her latest offering and purchased it without reading the reviews. Big mistake! As other reviewers have mentioned, the characters were not engaging, dialog was ridiculous, and there seemed to be no plot. I always finish books I start to read, but this is painful!

Poorly written. Even has a badly written dream sequence near the end. Very disappointed!
  • All Summer Long

Was a huge fan of her earlier books, but this one was very disappointing. Struggled to "get into" the first chapters and kept putting the book down, not a page turner. The characters were snobby and pretentious, not endearing. Couldn't connect with any of them, found myself repulsed by them. Plot and dialogue was often ridiculously silly and unbelievable. Also, The Low Country was not as much of a beloved theme or shining feature, which readers have come to enjoy and even rely on in DBF books.

Loved this one as much as all the others! Makes you want to head South and meet all these folks! Can't wait for the next adventure!

I tried to wait until I went to the Isle of Palms for summer vacation to read this book, but I just couldn't! It was too good. I could hardly put it down. It was set in three places I love: NYC, Sullivan's Island and Nantucket! What a joy to read about these places and the people in the novel. I won't say more except I recommend ALL SUMMER LONG by Dorthea Benton Frank.

Just okay, not worth the price. Her other books were better. The characters were not engaging. The plot was boring until the very end. Only a few interesting twists.

Well, you knocked it out of the park again. I am from South Carolina, you bring me back to my raising, and I thank you for that. I was a bit worried when this book began and quickly I was there. Thanks once more for a lovely story and the lessons it contained!
  • Not a Favorite

Of all of this author's books, this is my least favorite. The story dragged on for me until the last few chapters, almost as though the rest of the book was just a set-up for the wedding in Spain. The frequent changes in POV were distracting. Inserting a short paragraph POV change that really adds nothing to the story is simply irritating. If you're considering this thinking it will be a good Southern novel, be forewarned that the majority of the story doesn't take place in the South at all. Just an okay read...
  • Not one of her best

This book's plot is weak and the characters almost to formulaically sweet. I am a huge Dorothea Benton Frank fan, and I wish that I could praise this book, but it just does not measure up to her usual must reads.

I kept waiting for this book to turn into a beloved DBF Lowcountry story. Sadly it never evolved into anything but sappy dialog and characters that were insipid and shallow. Sorry I wouldn't waste money on this one.
