Old Murder, New Suspects

B.J. has done it again! Hard Rain kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning sentence to the last paragraph! Even though it's 355 pages, I groaned when it ended! I wanted more! The characters are so intertwined and the suspense has me staying up so late, I don't get any sleep! In this book, we follow the 35 year old murder of Maggie McTavish when her cousin, Brody, and one of the Hamilton girls, Harper, are out riding horses and happen to find the body which has been exposed by a recent rainstorm. This sets off Hamilton family secrets, scandals in the community and even though the murder happened 35 years ago, there are still plenty of people for the sheriff to talk to! Maggie had been rumored to have had an affair with JD Hamilton who was Harper's grandfather - a senator and twice her age, but the Hamilton family refuses to believe this. B.J. did something different in this book which I thoroughly enjoyed. Each chapter she went back and "flashbacked" to parts of the actual meetings between Maggie and JD Hamilton 35 years ago. It gave the story so much more authenticity! I always love how B.J. uses secondary characters in her storylines. This book was no different. Brody and Harper decide to also investigate the murder on their own, which doesn't make the sheriff happy AND it puts them in danger. I cannot WAIT until we find out what actually happened to Harper's mother, Sarah! She has been gone for 22 years but has recently returned, saying she has amnesia! We continue to get more information in this book! I definitely recommend this book!!!
