Description

From the team that brought you The Obstacle Is the Way and Ego Is the Enemy, a daily devotional of Stoic meditations—an instant Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestseller.

Why have history's greatest minds—from George Washington to Frederick the Great to Ralph Waldo Emerson, along with today's top performers from Super Bowl-winning football coaches to CEOs and celebrities—embraced the wisdom of the ancient Stoics? Because they realize that the most valuable wisdom is timeless and that philosophy is for living a better life, not a classroom exercise.

The Daily Stoic offers 366 days of Stoic insights and exercises, featuring all-new translations from the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the playwright Seneca, or slave-turned-philosopher Epictetus, as well as lesser-known luminaries like Zeno, Cleanthes, and Musonius Rufus. Every day of the year you'll find one of their pithy, powerful quotations, as well as historical anecdotes, provocative commentary, and a helpful glossary of Greek terms.

By following these teachings over the course of a year (and, indeed, for years to come) you'll find the serenity, self-knowledge, and resilience you need to live well.

Fantastic daily company, just finished it for the first time and on my bouts for a second. Great book to have with you through your daily adventures for those frustrating moments at work when you sneak away. These always seem to be just what needs to be said

I loved reading this book but it told me I was finished on January 18th. Where are the rest of my pages? I would like some sort of refund or help. I want to finish the book please, lol

This is a perfect read for busy people like myself. As a PhD student in clinical psychology I can really appreciate reading about the origins of our beloved field which is rooted in Stoic philosophy. I loved reading a page before starting the day in the mornings— One meditation is just enough food for thought to ground you for the whole day. I have referenced this book several times to professors, friends, colleagues, and even in my graduate school interviews! Overall, I believe this book is excellent for anyone who wants to strengthen their self-awareness skills and contains many valuable lessons in every page. I didn’t want this book to end, but I am excited to share the magic of The Daily Stoic to others reading it for the first time. Excellent book!

Easy to consume. I read a chapter every day. Discovered a bunch of new ideas that changed or straightened my view of my life. Appreciate how the book (the philosophy) calls for action. Something I may miss, because I enjoy learning, enjoy reading, but timid to apply the new knowledge in life.

This book is in my top 10 of all time. Ancient wisdom from the Stoics that rings true and feels modern today. I read it every day as part of my journaling and writing practice. Try it here on iBooks and if you love it, consider picking up a leather bound version by Ryan at his book store, The Painted Porch. That’s why I did, this book is a gem.
