A rollercoaster...not necessarily the good kind

At the start of the book I was intrigued. The as things picked up speed it became like a rollercoaster...one that gives you whiplash and motion sickness! Too many things are introduced too fast and the story kept jumping all over the place. Obviously it was the only way the author saw to introduce all the elements of this convoluted story. There are just too many disparate story elements here that just don't seem to jive with the base love story. Anarchist cults, stalkers, jewel thieves, amnesiacs, wiped memories, jealous ex...it's too many pieces thrown in to make the story work.
After about 2/3 of the book was finished and things seem to go linear once again the suspense ratcheted up and I was anxious to see the conclusion. The investment I had at that point to see what was going to happen is why I upped the rating to four stars from where I would have had it based on the first 70% of the book. Clearly something the author did worked enough to make my pulse race for the conclusion.
So if you can take the jumpy, scattered beginning and the disjointed story it ultimately makes for a suspenseful conclusion.
