Description

New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant takes you deep inside the Texas rodeo scene in the second book in her Heart of Texas series, Cowboy, Cross My Heart, where danger and desire ride side by side. . .

Naomi Pierce isn’t the type to let a cowboy sweep her off feet. It’s not her first rodeo, after all. But when she returns to her Texas hometown, she can’t help but be swept up again in the rough-and-tumble world of hard-riding, bronco-busting good-ol’-boys she loved as a girl. She might be here to photograph her Rodeo Queen best friend. But it’s one fine-looking cowboy who really captures her eye…

Brice Harper is all man, all muscle, and all heart. From the moment he rides into the stadium, he can’t help but notice the beautiful stranger with a camera watching him from the stands. It doesn’t take a zoom lens to see the sparks of instant attraction. But things really heat up when he meets Naomi up-close—and he discovers that someone is stalking her friend. Brice wouldn’t be any kind of cowboy if he didn’t offer to help the ladies out. But can the rough rider keep this spirited shutterbug out of danger—without risking his heart?

ARC for honest review with no compensation received from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press This is book 2 in the Heart of Texas series and is my first book by Donna Grant. Will certainly be reading more of her books and this series!! Naomi Pierce is a world class photographer who has come back home to take pictures of her best friend and Rodeo Queen but while talking with her friend she gets the vibe that not all is well with her friend. Though she questions her friend she isn't talking. A while later sitting in the rodeo stands taking pictures of the events Naomi sees a fine looking man riding who catches her eye. Now she has to find this man... Brice Harper is a rodeo cowboy, tall, handsome, full of muscles with lots of heart. While in the arena getting ready for his event he scans the seats and finds a beautiful stranger with a camera in her hand pointed at him. Something sparks inside him and he is determined to meet her but before he can find her he hears a call for help and runs to the rescue. Who does he find but the beautiful stranger, Naomi and the Rodeo Queen. What he thinks is a simple rescue turns out to be something so much more. Lots of mystery, danger in the dark, shadows, laughs, romance and sexy times make this book so worth reading!!

3.5 stars Professional photographer, Naomi Pierce, returned to her hometown to visit her mom and best friend, Whitney. Naomi had no idea that this particular visit would have her fearing for her life, anxious about her friend, and falling in love with a handsome cowboy. Whitney was the Texas Rodeo Queen, and Naomi couldn’t wait to capture her on film. However, while Naomi was at the rodeo, someone tried to steal her camera. Brice Harper wrestled the man to the ground but was unable to identify him, before the man took off. Naomi’s friend, Whitney, wasn’t acting like her usual self. She was jumpy and tense and definitely safeguarding a secret. When accidents started to happen, Naomi and the Harper brothers wanted answers. Whitney confessed that cruel men with inflated egos were abusing girls. Brice and Caleb Harper were determined to bring the scumbags down. Cowboy heroes, Brice and Caleb Harper, were the type of guys that girls loved to have by their side. Naomi, however, was only interested in one cowboy. The one who stole her heart. Cowboy, Cross My Heart is an enjoyable, western romance novel. Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

This is not your average cowboy romance. You got 3 cowboys with military training and a town with some very corrupt and sick individuals in place of power, who have been sexually assaulting the rodeo pageant women for years. It all comes crumbling down when Naomi comes home to visit her best friend and current rodeo queen, Whitney and discovers she's being stalked. Trying to get Whitney to talk has put both these women in danger as well as the men who try to save them. Talk about suspenseful! I spent the whole book trying to figure out who was behind all these assaults, as well as trying to figure out why a strong woman like Whitney wouldn't out these men. It was disgusting how many people were involved with helping these men get away with hurting all these women. On top of that, you have a secondary story line of Brice and Naomi's growing attraction to each other as Brice and his family try to keep these women safe and uncover the identity of the attackers. With everything going on, this made for a pretty fast paced read. I enjoyed the suspense as well as Brice and Naomi's budding relationship. I didn't enjoying hearing the thoughts of the men and what they have done. Thankfully the author kept that part to a minimum. It was nice seeing Abby and Clayton again and I look forward to Caleb's story. ARC provided by NetGalley.
