Most of the terror of the alien was in its total lack of consciousness, but the desire to spread the disease? Also gaining intelligence from the host was a little far fetched. As to procreating, only the Queen can produce eggs, and it’s never been suggested that a drone can reproduce. Also, there’s a lot of back story that really has nothing to do with the main story.
