“The exuberant activity aboard the Splendido Marveloso is no match for the fireworks set off as the lies explode. Full of wicked humor and delicious destination details.”—People (Book of the Week)

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY ESQUIRE

When seventy-year-old Charlotte Perkins submits a sexy essay to the Become a Jetsetter contest, she dreams of reuniting her estranged children: Lee, an almost-famous actress; Cord, a handsome Manhattan venture capitalist who can’t seem to find a partner; and Regan, a harried mother who took it all wrong when Charlotte bought her a Weight Watchers gift certificate for her birthday. Charlotte yearns for the years when her children were young, when she was a single mother who meant everything to them.

When she wins the contest, the family packs their baggage—both literal and figurative—and spends ten days traveling from sun-drenched Athens through glorious Rome to tapas-laden Barcelona on an over-the-top cruise ship, the Splendido Marveloso. As lovers new and old join the adventure, long-buried secrets are revealed and old wounds are reopened, forcing the Perkins family to confront the forces that drove them apart and the defining choices of their lives.

Can four lost adults find the peace they’ve been seeking by reconciling their childhood aches and coming back together? In the vein of The Nest and The Vacationers, The Jetsetters is a delicious and intelligent novel about the courage it takes to reveal our true selves, the pleasures and perils of family, and how we navigate the seas of adulthood.

  • Disappointing ending

I really enjoyed the book and kept looking for chances to read a few pages. But as it got towards the end it felt rushed and I was left with questions. This is the second book I’ve read of “Reese’s book club” books that I didn’t love.

Nic easy and fast read. I enjoyed the story and the development of characters. The built up was great, but I personally those the climax of the story was a little lacking, there was so much built up on each character and then the ending just one really focused on one characters storyline. Enjoyable, don’t get me wrong it kept be turning pages and was a nice read from my typical murder mysteries I read.

I wouldn’t recommend this book, it drug out way to long for not very big actions to unfold. It was a bit of a disappointment.

It took me so long to finish the book because I didn’t really want to read it. I could not connect with the characters at all. The end was confusing. I wouldn’t recommend this to a friend.

As a Reese Witherspoon Bookclub recommendation, I wanted to enjoy this book. It appears as a fun vacay read, but then addresses, or actually avoids dealing with, some deep issues. That would be fine if it all led to a nice conclusion- either good or bad for the family in the story. But unfortunately too many important moments of character development are left out, (perhaps for dramatic effect, perhaps terrible editing?) so the reader is thrown a very abrupt wrap up at the end that feels awkward and doesn’t really give you any feeling of happiness, or any other emotion, for that matter. 2 stars because I wanted to finish it hoping there would be moments of revelation to cheer for... there were moments, but the reader really doesn’t get to savor any of them because of the style of writing.
  • Not what I was expecting.

I hate to leave a bad review but I’d like prevent anyone else from wasting their time. It was confusing and drawn out with no real closure or conclusion.

The first few chapters read like a bad commercial script featuring random product placements. Picked up a bit, but by no means anything special nor clever.

A total disappointment! Childish and ridiculous. Don’t waste your time or money.
