This was an amazing book that kept your attention so that it was difficult to put down. It begins with clear lines of who is Good and who is Evil; but, judgment shouldn't be made until all the facts are in. This is a great character study of how different people deal with childhood trauma - who they decide to become:a good or bad person. Not only that, but how difficult it is to trust, ourselves and others. If we decide to grow, or cut ourselves off to be 'Safe.' It's about overcoming all of these things: Hurt, abuse, (physical & emotional); Love; Grief; fear (of so many things & people, especially ourselves);. There are no clear lines of 'Good & Bad' there are way too many grey lines, factors that we are not at bookaware of to make that judgment call; unless we have the whole picture, which we rarely do when making judgment calls on a person or persons we only know one side . I like the way this dealt with the loss ofJoshua is so wishing Cora were still with him. He missed her more than ever; while Hillary and Tony are staying with him during the investigation. I don't want to give it all away, but if you really pay attention while reading, there is a lot to be re-learned. It is truly a great book.

I don't read many books at all. Maybe a total of ten in my life. Half of those are deans books. This one so far the best yet. I bought the book and then lost it so I got it on my phone. Worked better that way. Lots of suspense I'm about to find another to read.

A fascinating and gripping novel by an author who never disappoints. He brings his characters to life with such intelligence and depth that you feel as though you can see into their soul. Koontz'es gift of words, sentence and paragraph structure, far surpasses any other author writing in this genre.

I love the afterwords by Mr. Koontz. It is always enjoyable to hear how a book came to be and this one is exceptionally great because this was Mr. Koontz' last book before he became very well known. It is certainly not his best "yarn"...please bring back Christopher Snow...but a good read for a short holiday. Thank you Mr. Koontz! (From one dog lover to another.) You are one of my favorite authors!

This book was absolutely enthralling. This would have to be right up there with Watchers, another Koontz great. The deeper into this novel you go, the more spellbound you will be. The ending is the ultimate climax!
