Philippa Gregory captures in Lady Elizabeth Woodvill an incredible woman who beautifully navigates and manipulates her luck and fortune within the confines placed upon her by England's social prejudices. She combines in her character ambition, motherly devotion, and poilitcal saviness. While the character and story perfectly follows the true history of the Wars of the Roses, Gregory skillfully escavates and marks the true historical tale and, within its bounds, crafts characters and plots with all the familiarity, tangibility, and unique personality of any story that is fully fictional. You will forget that the book is history, but you will leave the finished book with much-heightened understanding of the time and history that The White Queen takes place in.

Interesting history. The story is a little slow getting started, but it picks up and becomes intriguing soon. The fighting gets a little tiresome, but the family saga should keep the reader interested. The author, very thoughtfully, wrote a sequel.

Typical Philippa Gregory book, great. She has a way of telling a story that keeps you coming back for more. Fact interwoven with fiction makes for a great read.

Another Philippa Gregory triumph. Loving historical fiction as I do, this is yet another of her well researched-embroidered tales. I learned a lot about this period in history and anxiously await the next book in the series.

I enjoyed the book. I found the character of the White Queen complex and very human. She was a hopeful woman caught in a world controlled by men and luck. You see how she progresses from a soft innocent young woman to an older woman poisoned with mistrust caused by her husband's ambitious family. The author ends with an great interpretation of one of England's most interesting mysteries of what became of her family.

I started by reading the sample and was immediately drawn to the story line and knew i had to make the purchase. Halfway through the book I regretted the purchase and find myself cursing at the white queen. To me she starts off in a postive note but then she just becomes evil and unforgiving. Not very queen like! I wont spoil the ending but there was more to be desired of the story than how it ended. I dont know if there is another book that follows it but i felt that the story just cut off at end and not reveal what had happened. Quite disappointed and i feel that the author could've done better.
