Description

A post-apocalyptic thriller of the after effects in the United States after a terrifying terrorist attack using electromagnetic pulse weapons.

New York Times
best selling author William R. Forstchen now brings us a story which can be all too terrifyingly real...a story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war, in one second, a war that will send America back to the Dark Ages...A war based upon a weapon, an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP). A weapon that may already be in the hands of our enemies.

Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, literally within one second. It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future...and our end.

  • I wish an EMP hit before I bought a digital copy of this book

I thought the premise of this book was interesting but I just did not enjoy it. Cheesy imagery and dialog especially when it comes to anything patriotic.
  • Less frightening than the reality.

The events portrayed in this book are better than what we can expect in the event of an EMP attack, or a X-class solar flare that would take down our aging electrical grid in seconds. Forewarned should result in being forearmed.
  • Great book, chilling!

I've read this book twice. Such a great story as terrifying as it is. A LOT to think about, probably prepare for. Really good story, we'll written, hard to put down. Thanks for waking me up a bit more!

Frightening, we take for granted our technology. Born at the end of WW11 I have seen both sides. Something that should be addressed. We never have had the issues in the book but we could have! I fear for younger generations.
  • Realistic.

Every American should read this book. The consequences of an EMP attack are profound, and given the growing threat from nuclear capable, peer-level nations, we must be ready for the unthinkable. EMP is the only truly effective way to take down the United States without all the global second and third order effects of all out nuclear war. We must prepare, or we will cease to exist as a country, as a people, and as a force for good in the world.

An amazing book. When an EMP blast takes out all communications and electronics in the United States. This is the story of one town’s attempt at survival. Heartbreaking and frightening.
