This book is so fabulous, I am speechless. It is a book that is beautifully written, a fascinating story, so full of interesting characters, information and scenery so well described that one is transported front Cochin to Madras, then to Addis Abba, New York and you feel like you were there.
  • I am ambivalent about the title.

I loved this book very much. I did not want it to end. The writing is fantastic. I felt like I knew each of these characters.

This is a lovely epic about the life of a family whose members are dedicated to medicine. The pace of the story never lags and never outruns itself. I was engaged from the beginning to the end. The story follows the lives of congenital twins . The description of life in Ethiopia and later the jarring comparisons to life in America during the same time period are entrancing. As many reviews state there is a lot of medical terminology and much of the story takes place in medical settings; however, this is just a sideline—a medium through which you will experience the true story of life, love, loss, and fulfillment. I can’t recommend this book enough.

It popped up as a trial and I was hooked from the prologue. Love, betrayal, drama, death, pain and a lot of medical procedures- Needless to say I paid for the book after the 4 chapter trial. And I do not regret it.
  • What a great story about growing up in a foreign land.

A wonderful book from start to finish. Beautiful characters and set in a part of the world unfamiliar to me. I laughed and shed tears. A touching story, well told.

Beautifully written with deep, meaningful passages reflecting the passion of our souls. I never thought I'd be so captivated by such in-depth medical detail, but I found it all fascinating. I want to turn around and read it all again.
