  • Too much animal suffering

This is a beautiful, engaging story but if you, like me, are bothered by animal abuse and death, this isnt the book for you. I also felt that the animal abuse and death in the story didnt add anything to the story line and was unnecessary. I love Alice Hoffman, but not this one.

I have owned three different versions of this book: The hardcover edition (I forgot it in a hotel room), the paperback (Someone 'borrowed' it) and now finally the e-book. When I sat down yesterday and started reading, I couldn't stop until I finished it early this morning. It is the first book in more than 10 years that touched my soul in such a way that I cried, but not-one-or-two-tears cry. Sobbing, cleansing of the soul cry. When I finally finished it, it filled me with hope, a much better understanding of forgiveness and a less of a longing for the loved ones I have lost recently. Thank you Alice Hoffman.

Enchanting, harrowing and hopeful, this tale had me in tears, sobs and laughter. Alice Hoffman embraces the joy and horror of life in this book, told through three generations, simultaneously.. Really incredible writing, I cannot begin to tell of the emotions this book is capable of making the reader experience, thank you Alice..
