  • Good for passing time, but extremely boring.

    This author seems to have run out of good ideas for the narrative by this book. It felt like he filled the pages with overly descriptive “fluff”, just to make a 100 pages story into a 1000 pages book. On top of that, the author seems to have been so uninspired that the more the book progresses, the more boring and dreadful the narrative becomes, culminating in an utterly uninspired and disappointing ending (not counting the extremely cringeworthy romance story he tries to weave into the narrative…). I’m the end, he turned the half decent premise he had for the story at the beginning of the series, killed it halfway through the second book, and proceeded to beat that dead horse all the way through the third book…

    I loved Hyperion, I enjoyed the resolution that Hyperion falls gave but this, this was a waste. Should never have been written. Just stop with Hyperion Falls or better yet just read Hyperion. All of the constant unraveling and destruction of literally everything from the two Hyperion books in this is so frustrating to read. Also the fact that the “hero” in this one is absolutely useless and constantly screwing up, almost dying is exhausting. Nothing unique to explore here, and it results in some mamby pamby lame utopia in the end because everybody drank some girls blood.

    Most great works of science fiction end up being great works of philosophy, as well. The Hyperion Cantos series is no exception, with the fourth and final book punctuating its universal lesson of tolerance and understanding. The final book loses half a star because too much of it is slowed in places by Dickensian description.

    Not the best book of the series but still great. Re-read it again after twenty years and loved it. One of the few books that made me sad when I finished it, for the journey with all the characters was over.

    I’ve literally never written a review for anything. These books were so good I felt so compelled. What an epic four book journey. These have been some of my favorite Sci-Fi tales of all time. Covering all aspects of technology and life, I simply couldn’t stop reading. I highly recommended all of them.

    The Rise of Endymion is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. And the entire Hyperion Cantos is the best sci fi book out there! What a Wonderful read, amazing characters and a beautiful world he has crafted here. Dan Simmons has done it right.

    From a beginning that teased of a cryptic demon-driven Canterbury Tales, to a star-crossed lovers space-time immemorial storyline, through an alien landscape with African Queen river-ventures, and crossing the finale with fatalistic quantum true love story... This is an amazing tribute to the true creative force that gives meaning to the genre of science fiction.

    What a wonderful series of books. I am truly saddened that my time with them is over! The characters literally became a part of my days, and my dreams....a series that will stretch and transform one's understanding of what our future may someday be. An absolute must-read!
