Description

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize
“A masterwork . . . the novel astonishes with its inventiveness . . . it is nothing less than a grand comic fugue.”—The New York Times Book Review

A Confederacy of Dunces is an American comic masterpiece. John Kennedy Toole's hero, one Ignatius J. Reilly, is "huge, obese, fractious, fastidious, a latter-day Gargantua, a Don Quixote of the French Quarter. His story bursts with wholly original characters, denizens of New Orleans' lower depths, incredibly true-to-life dialogue, and the zaniest series of high and low comic adventures" (Henry Kisor, Chicago Sun-Times).

One of the best books I've ever read, and I've read many. And the sad truth about the author is yet a story unto its self.

Had to read over a few parts again because the imagery was a bit confusing. Started this as an audio book, but was even more confused by all the characters in the beginning. A fun read.
  • Not edifying

Did not feel the book was edifying or thought provoking at all. Did not even finish it--better things to do with my time. I just wasted money.

Most novelists place one or two "odd" or "eccentric" characters in their books to add comic relief. A Confederacy of Dunces is dedicated entirely to these characters. It made for a laugh out loud reading. Jones always made me smile!

The book followed through at the end and wrapped everything together nicely. Chapters 13 and 14 are the best.
