Description

Little Iggy finds out he has to have his marshmallow-like tonsils removed.  His journey from Dr. Anthony's office, to the operating room & back to his Mom & Dad's arms is, literally, an eye-opening adventure!

Written by a pediatric anesthesiologist, this is a delightful book to help parents & children prepare for the surgical experience.

“An accurate portrayal of surgery framed in a way children can understand. A great book for parents to read to their children in preparation for surgery.”
—Ira Buchwald MD, Pediatric Anesthesiologist

“Dr. Bhatia’s book takes a potentially scary experience and turns it into a fun adventure. The story, complete with great illustrations, is a wonderful way to introduce surgery to children. A must read for any young child who needs an operation.”
—Julie R. Glasson MD, Pediatric Surgeon

My 5 year old really enjoyed this book. We read it the night before his surgery I think it helped explain things in his terms!

My son is having inguinal hernia surgery Friday 10/26/12 and I hav been looking online for help to explain this because I really don't know how, I have been anxious and nervous and I was looking and looking for a book geared towards kids, my son is 5yrs old, because I stink at explaining things, I can sleep tonight and I look forward to reading this to my son....and it's a bonus that the profits go to help cancer patients. Thank you.
  • Great surgery prep for small children

I got this for my son before his tonsillectomy. It was vital to me that he understood everything that was going to happen to him to ease his anxiety. We read it three days before the surgery and a lot on the morning of the surgery. The doctors were impressed at his level of calm and post operation, though he was groggy he was not distressed or anxious about his pain. The nurses all agreed that it was because he had been prepared and wasn't fearful. I would have liked it to be a little more explicit about the recovery room and the few days after surgery; but up until the surgery it's really great explaining the anaesthetic, the IV etc. Its never patronizing and gives exact medical terms
  • I liked it!
