Often is the case where you pick up a 40k book and and half way through, the reading becomes a chore because of gaping plot holes, flat characters, and over used phrases. You still love the universe and the setting but you've got the literary version of a lack luster Michael Bay film. And you find yourself hoping that someday a writer will give the fiction the treatment that it deserves. And boom, in walks Dembski-Bowden. Pretty sure he will become the definitive author for the 40k universe. And yes I've read Abnett and McNeill. Tried to trudge my way through a few Counter books. No one does it better than Dembski-Bowden. This book will give you everything you want from a 40k novel. And He even manages to slip in some sexual tension (or as close as it gets to sexual tension in the grim darkness of the future) which isn't necessary but adds a new element and makes this story stand out from the rest. I started in and couldn't put it down. Read it in two days.

This is a fantastic book! You will be constantly engaged cover to cover. Space wolves and grey knights are both described in thrilling detail.

When you pick up a book, and after reading the first page you find yourself unable to put it down. I found this to be one of those books. The tie ins to other books in the 40k universe were nice to stumble across while reading, and the additional background for one of the more obscure space marine chapters was great to read. Further cementing this book as the best book I have read over the last year.

This is the best 40k novel I've read ( and I've read all of them). It is a great paced sci-fi story with a morality tale. The author did a great job fleshing out a side story from the codex which made the grey knights look downright evil and turn it on its head. Absolute must read if you like 40k.

Overall good book. I thought it was well paced. Minor thing, but Apple or whoever enters the description of the books (on the left side) need to have an editor! This book isn't over 400 pages! It's more like 315 and that is with the licensing stuff at the end.
  • Amazing!
