I'm a huge fan of James Rollins and have enjoyed several of his books but I was wary of reading a book that had a co-author. The Blood Gospel had many obvious influences from both Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell. But I didn't feel like Cantrell's contributions added much to Rollins' usual action packed historically influenced stories. She added more adjectives and the strange non-romance between two characters. But the lack of romance between Rollins characters in his other books is something I appreciated. He never fell into that Hollywood attitude that anytime a man and a woman are near each other a romance must ensue. The story itself is fast paced and intriguing but the end disappointed me. It feels dishonest when a book concludes so open-ended that the reader must buy the next book in order to get the whole story. Characters and subplots were introduced and never followed up on to the point of providing answers. And after all the strife and violence the main characters went through to only be told they hadn't actually achieved their goal felt like an ABC Family tv show for teenagers that never solves a problem so we will keep coming back. I think I will stick to James Rollins books where he is the sole author from now on.

I was so tired of Sigma Force that I stopped reading James Rollins for awhile. I really enjoyed this new book and can't wait to read Innicent Blood. Keep them coming!

I have been a big fan of James Rollins. That was the main reason I read this book. I am not a fan of vampire stories, at least not in novels. I am always very frugal about books I buy... I always read the entire book. This was a challenge. I was disappointed that the vampires dominated the story and threw in the element of unbelievable nonsense. I was reared a Roman Catholic and found the numerous references to that church interesting. However, the vampire stuff is just ridiculous. The doctrine of "transubstantiation" is, in my opinion, a silly way the church used to control its followers. To use it in the context of vampirism is a sad perversion of what the early church did by creating this silliness. I hate to say this, but I will take extreme care in reviewing any other books by James Rollins before I am fooled into another purchase. My hope is that the partnership in authorship is the reason for this crazy story. If you like James Rollins' previous books, don't be fooled into assuming this is another... it's a major digression. I would not have bought this if I had realized the nature of the story.

I have never read one of Rollins book until I bought it one day, it was the unexpected that caught my attention and the suspense kept me reading until the very end. It's a book that I recommend to my friends if they want a good suspense book.

No paperback is worth that price.. If there were 3 co-authors would the price be $8 more. Get real.

Good book. Entertaining. And predictably James Rollins.
  • Pretty Dissappointing

I'm typically very fond of the Sigma Force novels, especially since they weave in history and science along with fast paced story telling. Blood Gospel just goes too far off the reality track for me and the ending is rather anticlimactic. Trying to tie in what is currently popular on the CW as a core component of Christianity edges on insult despite being a fictitious escape. And I could have totally gone without the romance angle entirely. James Rollins has done far better work.

It was a typical James Rollins thriller. What more could you ask for. Great read, not too wordy and not lacking in depth. Great read!
