New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Rowe delivers another winner when small-town matchmakers decide a handsome billionaire is the perfect man for a sassy single mom who is too busy for love. ★★★★★ "This book grabs you and tugs at your heartstrings from beginning to end." ~Marie B (Amazon Review)

When billionaire entrepreneur Griffin Friesé arrives in small-town Birch Crossing to fix a mistake from his past that still haunts him, he quickly discovers that life in the close-knit lake town doesn't move at the speed he's used to. He soon finds himself stranded in town while he tries to sort out his past…and the only available lodging is far from the five-star luxury he's used to.

Clare Gray is a widowed single mom in need of a renter for her spare room. When the sexy out-of-town bachelor moves in to her home for a few weeks, her tidy world is upended by the interfering, cocky, and endearingly vulnerable big city businessman.

Late-night baking sessions involving lots of wayward chocolate, sizzling attraction, and long-held secrets combust into a surprising, intense connection between the two opposites.

They both know he'll be leaving town soon, but what happens when Griffin realizes he wants more from the single mom who has given up on love?

The beginning I was ready to give up on the book bc it was all long drawn out thoughts and some repetitive. It was like 80 pages of “get on with it.” Haha but I held on and the story progressed. The dialogue that was lacking in the beginning finally picked up. More fun characters came into play. The book was good enough to elicit real emotion from me. I did cry at one point. Parts of it, I was annoyed at the adults and their immature “one track minds” thinking they couldn’t change when all it really takes is deciding to change if that’s what you want. They seemed to have made it harder than it needed to be. The 15 years with no date seemed unrealistic. But, overall it was a sweet storyline.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are several sex scenes, but only 1 was particularly graphic, which is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. The others were a bit more subdued. The characters were well developed & the storyline was enjoyable.

This was free for a reason and that’s because it’s terrible. DNF @ 3%. The main characters meet on a road during a terrible storm and a tree is across the road, he almost hits her car, spins out of control but doesn’t crash, we know she is frantically trying to get to her daughter who is camping with friends and they need help and when the two meet he has grabbed her off the tree and amidst all of the above starts making an internal lust filled assessment of her. What the absolute misogynistic crap is this. No thank you. Good bye.

The story was great and sad. The loneliness of the characters and their painful memories bring them together. Their relationship is explosive and they make life changes to stay together.
  • Great book.

Rather shallow story about a woman in emotional pain from her own immature choices who also manages to change a man she feels passionate about and allows into her bed while her teen daughter sleeps upstairs. (Another immature choice.) I’m not sure why the writer wants to impose her judgements about one’s lifestyle and preferred location, city versus backwoods small town with the latter being depicted as ultimately superior. In the end it seems to me that true love is about compromise, respect for one’s beloved, and acceptance that you cannot have it all your way in a “my way or the highway” mode. Discovering that women’s dreams are critically important to one’s happiness, does not mean that men’s dreams are not just as important. People actually travel for business, work sometimes remotely, live in more than one place, are ambitious and high earners while still enjoying happy families with their soulmate.
