Description

I love him.
I loathe him.

It’s like plucking daisy petals in my head, but he’ll never know.

When Miles Cavanaugh, the best safety in the league, was traded to the Chicago Grizzlies football team last year, I could finally breathe. Temptation was miles away.

How naïve to think it would end there because when the opportunity to write for a national magazine based in Chicago lands in my lap months later, I can’t turn it down. Sure, it’s a big city, but the sexual energy feels like a beacon between us the minute my plane lands.

To make matters worse, I end up having to take over the job of reporting exclusively on the Chicago Grizzlies. Which means traveling with the team, interviewing players, and pretty much having an all-access pass to their lives during the season.

Miles and I put up a great front, quickly hating on one another, but we both know it’s a lie. We also know the rules are simple. For me, don’t sleep with the subject of your articles. For him, don’t sleep with the journalist who can make or break your career.

I thought straight-laced Miles Cavanaugh followed all the rules… oh how wrong I was.

This is the first book in the new series about the Chicago Grizzlies football team and it’s off to a great start. Miles and Bryce had a contentious relationship when Miles was with the Kingsmen. Bryce hardly ever had a good thing to write about his playing. Now that he's been traded to Chicago, he thinks he's rid of Bryce. Little does he know that Bryce is now working for a sports magazine based into Chicago. He isn't thrilled when he finds that out. Bryce is unexpectedly now reporting on the Grizzlies and even has to travel with the team. On the away trip, Bryce's room isn't available and Miles offers to share his room. This puts them in close contact and the real feelings come out. They try to keep their relationship a secret but it comes out. Bryce is taken off reporting on the Grizzlies. What will happen to their relationship now? Miles is a wonderful guy and treats Bryce really nice. Will that continue? I really like this new series and can't wait for the next book.

I really enjoyed this one! I’m such a huge grab of the enemies to lovers trope and this one had a plot twist I didn’t see coming! The audio was great! Looking forward to the rest of this series.

Something Like Hate is an enemies to lovers romcom by Piper Rayne. This book is about Miles Cavanaugh, a professional football player who had traded from the San Francisco Kingsmen to the Chicago Grizzlies during th previous season. Miles was a repeating character from the Kinsmen trilogy and older brother of Twyla from Over My Brother’s Dead Body, Chase Andrews. Bryce, who also appeared in the Kingsmen series, was the sports journalist who had reported on the Kingsmen to a local San Francisco newspaper. She and Miles had both been part of the same friend group there, but had loathed each other. Bryce also moved to Chicago when she got the opportunity to write for a national sports magazine and the two found themselves in each others’ orbit again. It was really great to read this book, since it was obvious there was a story waiting for Miles and Bryce. It was sexy, steamy, filled with tension and sparks, funny and sweet, and an all around perfect Piper Rayne story. It kicked off a new sports romance series which shows great promise. I recommend that readers of contemporary, sports, and romcom books grab this one today. It doesn’t disappoint. I am voluntarily submitting this honest review after reading an advanced complementary copy of this book thanks to Valentine PR.
  • Finally getting Miles and Bryce’s story

I’m so excited that Bryce and Miles finally are getting their story told. Having met them in the Kingman series, I thought for sure they’d find their HEA in California, not the Windy City. But it honestly doesn’t matter where it happened because it’s about dang time! Miles is that antithesis of the sorts “player”. He’s focused on his career and more than a little too hard on himself, but he’s ready for a relationship and he wants Bryce. Bryce is a complete ball buster at times, and it conflicted me occasionally. While she’s looking at this move at her big break, she’s annoyed that she can’t escape Miles, because she “hates” him, you know! The chemical reaction from these two is crazy. There really is a fine line between love and hate. We’re introduced to Miles teammates Damon and Cooper, as well as Bryce’s college besties, Ellery and Connor. Yup, same guy! Another overlapping friend group…and Bryce isn’t thrilled. But I loved them and can’t wait to read their stories as well. Great start to this fun new series…I dare say I might even like it better than the Kingsmen. Just don’t tell the, okay!?

Something Like Hate is the first book in the new Chicago Grizzlies series. This enemies to lovers, sports romance had plenty of steam and drama. Miles and Bryce have always had an intense connection, despite their bickering. Their chemistry can be felt throughout the story. This book was very entertaining and I enjoyed getting glimpses of the other characters from previous series. Tim Paige and Stephanie Kay did a great job portraying these characters.
  • Fun enemies to lovers sports romance

This is the first book in the new Chicago Grizzlies football series. We met Miles Cavanaugh and Bryce Burns in the San Francisco Kingsmen series. Throughout that series they were completely antagonistic towards each other, but you were never sure why. Well, Miles has been traded to the Grizzlies, and Bryce has a new job at Sportsverse, a sports magazine that just happens to be in Chicago as well. So, will we find out why they hate each other? And when Bryce is temporarily embedded with Grizzlies, will that hatred change? Miles is a really great guy, and I loved getting to know his teammates Damon and. Cooper (who will be in the next two books). Bryce was a little harder to like. Her dislike of Miles seemed over the top. Also, I am not a big fan of the inappropriate relationship that will jeopardize your career trope, so I did have a bit of a problem with that aspect of the story. If you enjoy a football/enemies to lovers romance, this is a really fun read. I received an arc of this book from the author for my honest review.

I’ve been waiting for Miles to get his HEA with Bryce & this series opener for the a Chicago Grizzlies did NOT disappoint. I knew from the second we met Miles & Bryce that their disdain for each other had sooooo much more to be discovered. Their underlying animosity was fueled by a tension that was so palpable, they didn’t stand a chance of staying away from each other. Miles Cavanaugh is the guy that all of them can rely on. He’s the protective brother, the loyal teammate, & the reliable friend. He’s just, overall, a good man. He’s the all-American boy next door. He’s also an easy target for the media if he messes up, because he’s a bit of a people pleaser sometimes too. Bryce Burns is the girl who is committed to giving the real story. And she’s not afraid to step on some toes to get it. She’s the girl who’s happy & good at her job, but she’s got dreams of bigger and better things. When Bryce gets the chance to write for Sportsverse Magazine, she jumps on this dream job opportunity. Only problem, their headquarters happens to be based in Chicago, where her arch nemesis from the San Francisco Kingsmen, Miles, just got traded. But she’s not following him! Besides, she’ll be the covering the minor league hockey team in Chicago, she won’t even have to see Miles. Miles & Bryce tend to find themselves in the same friend circle often. As they’re constantly thrown together in social situations, they finally succumb to their attraction. But due to unforeseen circumstances, their relationship now how a bit of a forbidden factor at play. There’s a bit of a twist that threw me for a loop, but kept me wanting so much more. This enemies to lovers, one night stand, sneaking around, forbidden love had me swooning, laughing, and gasping. The banter between Bryce & Miles was hilarious & so very fueled with bangxiety. And when they came together…WOW! They weren’t just a spark, they were an explosion of epic proportions. I absolutely devoured this book in mere hours. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I was hooked from the very start & once the banter started, you couldn’t pull me away! And the setup for the rest of the series has me on the edge of my seat.
