Secrets From the Past is the second in Blackwood vs. Baldwin Shores series by Elise Noble. Elise is an expert at weaving a storyline that allows the reader to take part in an adventure filled with intrigue, fear, subterfuge, artful manipulation, unexpected twists and her unique humor. Baldwin Shores isn’t the quaint sleepy coastal town that one would expect. In the Baldwin’s Shore series, The Bad Samaritan is introduced by saving lives and identifying criminals. Local Law enforcement are still baffled and suspect that either Nico Belinsky or Deck Langdon to be the Bad Samaritan. Nico Belinsky accidentally runs into Kaylin La Rocca in New York City where they have lunch, exchanged phone numbers but they never call one another. Nico remembers the little girl he befriended and thought of as a sister when her mother, a model, lived in Russia with his father. About six months later Kaylin leaves a message for help while she was in Manassas. He tries to find her, hires a PI who was never able to find any information other than the arrest warrant for the murder of an off-duty deputy sheriff. All leads are dead ends. Kaylin has disappeared. There is no trail. Is she dead or has she gone far underground. Nico contacts Blackwood Security to search for Kaylin. As a cold case Daniela di Grassi assigns Hallie Chastain a newer investigator who after speaking with Nico retraces the PI’s steps. Believing Kaylin is alive, she heads to New York City where Blackwood security investigator Collier Dafoe assists Hallie in meeting with four potential people that may help them reach their goal.

It is an excellent crossover between Baldwin Shores and Blackwood, with action, suspense, and, of course, romance. A great book to end 2023, Happy New Year!
