Description

Although this book is part of a series, it can also stand alone.

Thomas Seabrook, the penniless Duke of Wentworth, walks into White's for a night cap.   He leaves no longer in need of coin. In fact, he has become a wealthy man and owner of Hamilton Whaling Industries of New Bedford, Massachusetts and guardian of a seventeen-year-old girl. Thomas travels to Boston intent on bringing his ward back and marrying her off to the first eligible gentleman who requests her hand. Except the first gentleman to ask for her, is his own brother, Sebastian. Thomas refuses, because bloody hell, he wants her for himself.

Emma Hamilton is not happy with her new situation. Her papa brought her up to be independent and assertive. How dare this stranger, this moody noble, dictate what she can do and not do? When she finds herself thrown into a London Season, being introduced from one gentleman to another, looking for a husband, she realizes only the duke will do. How can she break through the duke's hard exterior and find the loving, caring gentleman she knows he hides from everyone.

Liked the story. Liked the characters. It was classic man(Thomas) jealous of other men who pay attention to his ward(Emma). Creates some conflict. Thomas tries to ignore his feelings but can’t.

Was a nice read, ended very abruptly and a few loose strings left. Overall enjoy the authors work

This was a lovely book. I have been reading romances since forever. This little book ranks rather high on my list of “good reads”

Thoroughly enjoyed this one! Aside from the steamy romance, which keeps one riveted, there were a few laugh out loud scenes! There were a few typos, which I’ve grown accustomed to with ebooks. Nonetheless, I wish the editing was done with a sharper eye.

I read this story and enjoyed it. Anyone who reads a historical romance and thinks it should end differently, needs not to read them. This book is about another era with different rules. One of the things I really enjoyed was the three men backed each other up without question.

i expect this kind of writing from someone taking a writing course, and even then i think any instructor would provide strong feedback and require revisions. i certainly wouldn't expect an actual publisher to put out something like this in print. poor writing, scattered story, odd dialogue, current day vernacular, no regard for protocol for this time period...it was just an altogether bad read & too boring to finish. i have no patience for what is clearly unskilled writing.

I found the writing to be weak, littered with modern phrasing that elite people back then simply wouldn't use. I found myself skimming at times as it was predictable and the characters tiresome.

Couldn't leave this story alone. Great reading and I just have to read the rest in this series. Romantic, suspenseful. Loved all the characters.
