Description

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds.

The Bands of Mourning are the mythical metal minds owned by the Lord Ruler, said to grant anyone who wears them the powers that the Lord Ruler had at his command. Hardly anyone thinks they really exist. A kandra researcher has returned to Elendel with images that seem to depict the Bands, as well as writings in a language that no one can read. Waxillium Ladrian is recruited to travel south to the city of New Seran to investigate. Along the way he discovers hints that point to the true goals of his uncle Edwarn and the shadowy organization known as The Set.

This man knows how to write, the highs the lows, make you feel that sense of excitement as the hero prevails, as well as ripping your heart out with the pain you watch the characters go through.

Best of the second era in the mist born series! Sanderson brings more depth into each character in this book and uses more twists in bands of mourning than either alloy of law or shadows of self. Drops a big cliff hanger in the epilogue to keep readers excited about what's next! Looking forward to reading the future books.

This boom just does so many things right, from revitalizing what should be stereotypical tropes (like a train robbery) into wonderfully crafted scenes, to surprising us in more and better ways than ever before. Sanderson's excellent way of framing battle scenes and dialogue and everything in between simply leaves me disappointed that the book was not longer, yet completely satisfied with it in its entirety.

there was not a single chapter that did not make me laugh out loud or feel like a kick in the head from a plot revelation.
