Let me start by saying I loved the badassery of Ivy. The girl on the cover is the perfect fit. I already knew I loved the character from her introduction in the earlier books of the series. In Surviving Ice you learn that Ivy hides her vunerable and insecure side. She makes me think of the saying "fake it til you make it." She makes up for her small stature with a big attitude and stubborn disposition. Her frequent moves keeps her circle of friends small but loyal. When Sebastian comes on the scene the attraction is instant. My love for Sebastian was not insta-love and I know it's because of his choice to employ hookers. With his training as a Navy Seal he was accustomed to being in control. His military service has left many scars on his skin and his psyche. As I got to know more about his character and what has driven him to withdraw from his family and relationships he definitely claimed my heart. I loved that from the moment he met Ivy he was compelled to protect her even though his job might include having to kill her. Ivy's Uncle has been her mentor and his tattoo shop had finally given her a place that she felt at home. His murder was even more tragic with her having been hidden in another room of the shop when it happened. I loved the added bit of suspense because of the who-done-it murder mystery. Sebastian is in a race to find the security camera proof that led to the murder before his boss and the idiots responsible for the murder demand Ivy's extermination. Being the best at his job may not save his burgeoning relationship with Ivy because of the lies he had to tell in the beginning. Luckily Ivy's best friends seem to be on Team Sebastian. Ivy's Uncle was no saint but his murder was not necessary and I was happy with Sebastian's brand of justice. Ivy and Sebastian find happiness and love and a place to call home in each other.
