Description

Channel Two predicted a blanket of snow for Thanksgiving weekend--unusual, but not alarming for the little Maine island. What comes is a blinding blizzard, and a mass disappearance of nearly every person Robby Pierce knows. He and his family flee, trying to escape the snow and the invisible forces stealing people right from the street.
Miles away, Brad Jenkins battles the same storm. Alone, he attempts to survive as snow envelops his house. When the storm breaks, Brad makes his way south to where the snow ends and the world lies empty. Join Brad, Robby, and the other survivors as they fight to find the truth about the apocalypse and discover how to live in their new world.

It took me a bit to get into this one because it started out a bit out there. I liked the characters but the premise didn’t hook me right away until I learned from different POVs. Eventually I was hooked and needed to know what happened and why it happened. This story does well with not giving you all of the answers but giving you only the answers that the characters would get or come to the conclusion of. Definitely want to know what happens after!

Beginning is a bit weird. It’s like the author set out to make a fiction and realized a third of the way in that, oh, right. It’s horror! Once the horror trickles in it gets good. I’m really glad that I gave it a fair chance. The pages zoomed by and I plowed through it in record time after it picked up. I’m eagerly starting on the next book in the series. Maybe even tonight! I’m a big fan of horror and it spooked me a bit. Very well done and strikes some chords I’ve heard in classic sci-fi/horror but manages to be very unique. There’s some spelling and grammar errors that I chuckled at but the characterization makes up for what editing missed. I honestly didn’t expect to find gold in what I assumed would be a quagmire of campy horror (the freebie books) but this is gold. Very good book to start up reading again. Thank you, Ike, for inspiring me to get back into books :D

This was a story I could really sink my teeth into - compelling story, sympathetic characters and very well-written. I just wanted to keep reading and reading.

I understand that the general consensus of writing a long book is to make it long but I feel as though the author put a lot of unnecessary filler in the book where it slowed down the pace to an uncomfortable and frankly boring text. On the other hand the author had good distinct, defined characters and very detailed descriptions of setting.

WOW!!! This is truly one great on the edge of your seat, page turning long into the night, keep you guessing book. Extinct has a great combination of characters thats range in age, personality, and strength. Each character add another dimension to each page and as the plot thickens, so do the characters until you reach the end. Bravo! Cant wait to read Instinct.
