“An addictive, action-packed, scorcher of a read!” —#1 New York Times bestselling author Alyson Noël

Some shadows protect you…others will kill you in this dazzling new fantasy series from award-winning author Abigail Owen.

Everything about my life is a lie. As a hidden twin princess, born second, I have only one purpose—to sacrifice my life for my sister if death comes for her. I’ve been living under the guise of a poor, obscure girl of no standing, slipping into the palace and into the role of the true princess when danger is present.

Now the queen is dead and the ageless King Eidolon has sent my sister a gift—an eerily familiar gift—and a proposal to wed. I don’t trust him, so I do what I was born to do and secretly take her place on the eve of the coronation. Which is why, when a figure made of shadow kidnaps the new queen, he gets me by mistake.

As I try to escape, all the lies start to unravel. And not just my lies. The Shadowraith who took me has secrets of his own. He struggles to contain the shadows he wields—other faces, identities that threaten my very life.

Winter is at the walls. Darkness is looming. And the only way to save my sister and our dominion is to kill Eidolon…and the Shadowraith who has stolen my heart.

The Dominions series is best enjoyed in order.

Really good young adult read. Cliff hangers on every chapter made me want to stop reading a few times. It’s still a good book. Stockholm syndrome at its finest.

Fantastic fantasy story, so glad it is a series. Would love to see it be made into a movie, which is not the normal for me. The description and characters are so vivid! A story of sisters born as twins, born to be queen, only one is a secret and is raised to protect her sister the princess, even at the cost of her life. The Shadowraith, a man made from the multiple shadows castoffs of the evil king, fights the evil within himself, but there is also a small part that is good. Trying to keep under control all the evil shadows, trying to save his world and the occupants that he has shelter. Needing the help and powers of the princess to save his world from sinking. The Queen has died and the coronation for the new queen will be under way shortly, of course the double, Meren is going to stand in for her sister the real queen. Her powers are just coming to her, but not her sister as of yet. On the way to the ceremony the Shadowraith grabs the princess, not knowing he has kidnapped the wrong person. The back and forth dialogue is great between the two, as they have no choice but to work together to fight the evil king and battle the shadows within. The narrator was fantastic, can wait for the next in the series. Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #TheLiarsCrown #RBMedia
  • Epically Wild Ride

So many stars for this epically wild ride. I am going to be honest, I don’t read many YA books, having said that when Abigail Owen is attached, it’s an automatic read for me. I couldn’t read it fast enough, absolutely devoured this book. And as you may have already guessed…I lost a lot of sleep, and could not put it down. As always it was just as amazing as I thought it would be. Meren is the twin princess that nobody knows about, and is tasked with sacrificing herself to keep her sister the future queen safe at all cost. And when she gets taken instead of her sister, it starts an epic story. Reven gets quite the ornery and sassy handful with Meren when he takes her. And Reven is the intense to keep her in line…or you know try to. Whew, these two, seriously their chemistry is off the charts. The powerful connection between these two was everything, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Just wanted more of them, which also kept me glued to the pages. Their back and forth, with the growing respect they develop for each other, topped off with so much raw chemistry was an intoxicating combination. One that I got completely lost in….for hours. The storyline was fantastic. It starts out right from the Prologue and goes full force throughout, so many wild twist, and turns. Which is exactly what kept me glued to the book….well that and their chemistry. And every single emotion I could feel, I did, and so intensely. At one point I was crying so hard I couldn’t get it under control…so that kind of intense emotion. Top all that off with these two and their raw chemistry…it’s hard to resist this bit of book crack. More please, I need more nowish. Get lost in this new and addicting world Abigail Owen has created, it was amazing.
  • Unique!

Very creative! I felt this was pretty unique to anything I've read to date. It had a very interesting storyline and I'm loving all the different characters. Meren is an easy heroine to want to root for. She has a high sense of loyalty and a desire to do what's right for all involved. Her power is still developing and I'm curious to what all she will be able to do once she has stabilized it. Reven is a very unique character. He's everything that is good, however he is battling pure evil from within himself. I won't spoil and expand on that. I like him for Meren, but I also like Cain for her as well. It'll be interesting how I feel with the next book. I can see many possibilities with this series, which I like. I'm looking forward to seeing the direction the author will take us.
  • A wonderful start to an epic fantasy

This book. Wow. Just wow. It needs more than 5 stars. This masterful tale hooks you in from the first word, grabs you by the throat and keeps you captive until the last syllable. Phew. This is the first book in a trilogy so be prepared for the resolution of some small story arcs but also for no resolution of the main story arc. Meren lives in squalor as a nobody but she is the secret identical twin of Tabra, the princess of Aryd. Meren’s purpose in life is to serve as a replacement for her sister in times of danger and there’s always danger for their family. Eidolon, the immortal king of Tyndra,, has been killing off Arydan queens for generations. Meren does have secret acts of disobedience that are just for her. Reven, the Shadowraith, has his own secrets and not just the ability to manipulate shadows. When Meren takes Tabra’s place at the coronation to protect her, it is Meren that Reven kidnaps. As Meren tries to escape from him, secrets are revealed and nothing is what it seems. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - intrigue, fighting, dangerous situations, end of the world scenarios, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, secrets, mystical coincidences, snark, laughs, and unexpected plots twists. While this is a YA fantasy, is also a deeply emotional book. At its heart, it’s a story of stunted, damaged and bruised but not broken people who find their way together by owning their choices, recognizing their scars, finding their strength, embracing life, and deciding to be the best version of themselves. It’s a story about the power of choice. The book is well written, has characters with a lot of depth, plenty of witty dialogue, and an engaging storyline. The adventure of Meren and Reven will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, gasping, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. I am super excited to read the next book in this series. I willingly read an early copy of this book.
