Description

A breakthrough approach for a good night's sleep--with no tears

There are two schools of thought for encouraging babies to sleep through the night: the hotly debated Ferber technique of letting the baby "cry it out," or the grin-and-bear-it solution of getting up from dusk to dawn as often as necessary. If you don't believe in letting your baby cry it out, but desperately want to sleep, there is now a third option, presented in Elizabeth Pantley's sanity-saving book The No-Cry Sleep Solution.

Pantley's successful solution has been tested and proven effective by scores of mothers and their babies from across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Based on her research, Pantley's guide provides you with effective strategies to overcoming naptime and nighttime problems. The No-Cry Sleep Solution offers clearly explained, step-by-step ideas that steer your little ones toward a good night's sleep--all with no crying.

Tips from The No-Cry Sleep Solution:
Uncover the stumbling blocks that prevent baby from sleeping through the nightDetermine--and work with--baby's biological sleep rhythmsCreate a customized, step-by-step plan to get baby to sleep through the nightUse the Persistent Gentle Removal System to teach baby to fall asleep without breast-feeding, bottlefeeding, or using a pacifier

  • Good depending on your situation

I can see this book being very helpful to some but my problem was getting baby to fall asleep without being held the whole time in the first place. If I could master that first, than yes I think this book would be helpful. I still am going to use some of the tips in hope to help.

Not helpful. Too long and drawn out when you are already sleep deprived. Get to the point.
  • Very useful. No videos.

This book had some useful tips and helped me get the confidence to try to put my baby in her crib. She slept there for the first time last night. It's got helpful tips and its flexible. The best part for me was the explanations about baby sleep cycles. This helped me understand why she was sleeping poorly and how to adjust. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there weren't any videos included which is the reason I picked this one. Thought the videos may be useful. I see text lines which look like there would be a video link but there's nothing there.
  • Huge help for our twins

"No Cry Sleep Solution" has been an enormous help getting our twins to sleep. It has great, easy advice if you have problems getting your baby to sleep at a reasonable hour or sleep long stretches. When we bought the book, our twins wouldn't get to sleep till 1am or later and I basically spent all day exhausted and dreading bedtime. I guess I thought that was normal for babies. Well, it does not have to be your normal and if you're in the same situation, try this book. Bedtime is no problem now and both twins are asleep by 8pm. Also helped with naps and getting babies to sleep longer. It has advice for many different set ups and needs and is easy to tailor to your family and your baby. I highly recommend this book!
  • Teaches you to trust your instincts

The no cry sleep solution is the only book I recommend to all parents struggling to get their children to sleep. The ethos of the book is as the front cover describes “gentle ways to help your baby sleep through the night”. Pantley’s methods spoke to me. They were natural, they seemed to fit with what I instinctively wanted to do. The first thing that struck me about the No Cry Sleep Solution was that it wasn’t designed to any baby but your baby. You make it fit. You are given tips and suggestions but there is no trying to fit your baby to a set model or requirements. The key part of her book that made me feel better was that officially ‘sleeping through’ means a period of 5hours sleep. It didn’t mean the 7pm to 7am which most other books stress. The NCSS is not a quick plan going to get you sleep immediately. It is a plan which needs time to take effect and you do need to stick with it long enough to see if it taking effect. If you want a quick fix, this book isn’t for you. But it proved to me that there were other options, that I didn’t have to do what everyone else said and that my instincts were probably right, so go with them. The NCSS makes you feel better about the sleep you’re [still] not getting. Do not expect a quick fix, but nothing worthwhile in life ever is!
  • Videos make this book very accessible

The addition of videos to The No-Cry Sleep Solution is a boon to this already extremely helpful book. In them, Pantley is warm, calming, and reassuring. Helping a baby to sleep better is a trying and exasperating task (I say this from current experience, and I haven’t succeeded just yet!), and Pantley’s reassurance in these videos is reenergizing. It can be hard to keep going with a new plan when your outside support is just the words on a page. Through her videos, Pantley offers the reader another way to look at each chapter’s lessons, and I think it has made the book even more accessible.

first off.. if you're buying the e-version of this .. dont! part of this book are the logs and charts that it requires you to fill out but the ebook version doesn't let you print any of them. waste of money. it was way too long for me to keep focused ( given I was sleep deprived). it used way too many testimonials instead of getting to the point of her sleep training. I would suggest buying another one called "5 days to a perfect nights sleep for your child". good luck parents.
