Description

On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shy, pretty, and talented with a drawing pencil, but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: she invented a sweetheart.

A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her, but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter . . . and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely.

Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep—handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He's wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters . . . and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.

Starts off promising, but it was missing, well, a lot of the things that make a book good. It needed more character development and the story jumped around. I never really understood why the characters were doing & feeling the things they were, and I got the feeling the author didn’t either.

The book was sweet and funny and a wonderful romance. It’s the last book in a good series that are truly stand alone books.

This is one of the BEST romance books I've ever read. The part where he's forced to read the poem he supposedly wrote to her in front of company, "I were a bird"..... wow. I couldn't stop laughing 💕

I love this author and this series. This is the third book in the series, but each book stands alone. I think this is my new favorite of the three. Romancing The Duke is my second favorite now. It has a lot of qualities that are true to romance of this era, but so many more twists and turns that make it fresh and so charming. Lots of humor mixed with angst. Both the H and h have reasons a plenty not to fall in love. It was fun to watch them both overcome fears of different kinds to come together. This story has a lot of heart because it's not just about the love affair of the main characters but also about all the different kinds of love that we have in our lives, family and friends. Friends that turn into family. So heart warming. Do yourself a favor and read the whole series, it doesn't matter what order you read them in. 2/27/2017 Just reread this and Romancing the Duke. Love these stories. They make you laugh and cheer for all the characters in these books. I was having trouble finding a good story to get lost in. Frankly, I was starting t get cranky about it. Like I had withdrawals or something. My mind kept going back to the Romancing the Duke story, so I re read it and there was an excerpt from this book in it. That's when I remembered I liked this story as well and just enough time had gone by that I didn't remember all the tiny details. I could sigh with happiness. It quenched my jitters and I'm a happy camper again. I love Tessa Dare's sense of humor and ability to make us care for her characters. The sex scenes are tastefully written and important to the story. I highly, highly recommend this author and this series in particular.

A heart warming novel. Tessa develops characters with true depth and makes you care about their happiness. No ridiculous theatrics or obnoxious mIsunderstandings. Just two people from very different upbringings looking for love and acceptance from the other.
