A feisty woman. A bossy highlander. A good story but nothing out of the ordinary for a highland story. The author’s sense of humor, tho, helps make it more enjoyable.
  • A good addition to a great series.

4.5* I really like Christine and Malcolm, they made for a fun couple. I always like when the hero’s idea of the perfect heroine is the exact opposite of what they get. I also like the suspense in this book but made for an intriguing story.

To Vex a Highlander: This is the forth book in Callie Hutton’s The Sutherland’s of Dornoch series. Malcolm our hero meets our heroine Christine at a tournament when she is chasing her dog, it does not go well with each thinking unfavorably of the other. Believing they won’t have occasion to see each other again they go their separate ways. Then a year later Malcolm agrees to an arranged marriage organized by his Laird Haydon to help strengthen the Sutherland Clan. You can imagine his shock when his bride walks into the room and is none other than the cheeky lass from the tournament. Christine also agrees to an arranged marriage by her Laird who also happens to be her father. As expected when two strong willed people are forced together this leads to some chaos and drama. An incident that forces Christine back to her childhood home leads to some danger that brings our couple together and admit their growing feelings for one another. A great story by Callie that has a bit of everything for the reader. Ultimately our couple find love and a happy ever after. This has been a very enjoyable series and I would recommend it to all. I received and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my honest opinions and review.

Malcolm Sutherland is cousin and second in command to the Laird. Malcolm is smart, crafty, strong (a braw Highlander), caring, and loyal to Haydon and the clan. Haydon has arranged a marriage between Malcolm and the youngest daughter of Laird Ross. Malcolm is looking forward to settling down with a sweet biddable wife. Christine Ross is feisty, independent, full of life and fun. This is a wonderful story to end this entertaining series. The characters, especially Malcolm and Christine, are awesome. There is snarky banter, a few domestic challenges, a problem with reivers to handle, and a rather dangerous mystery. Malcolm and Christine’s story makes you laugh and cry and holds your attention beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
