To save her from destitution he must travel halfway around the world and risk a long voyage in a small boat in inhospitable waters to recover her inheritance. Sadly, The Trustee From The Toolroom is one of the most under-tated books of the past 100 years, although a favorite among Nevil Shute fans...This is one of those novels that immediately speaks to readers, and at once seems wholly familar while still treading new ground. It is a quick read, but you will keep coming back to this book. The "trustee" is a mild mannered machinist, working in his toolroom creating miniature engines on his lathes and writing for a small model making journal. His mail never goes un-answered, and hobbyists around the world know of his work, his knowledge, and his generosity. The book tells the story of his voyage to the other side of the world, and along the way his chance encounters and happy chances create a "Candide"-style epic. This tale will appeal to anyone, but engineers, machinists, "makers" and anyone with a technical mind will feel like this story was tailor made for them.
  • A charming story about character and happiness
